November 2025

The automotive industry is rapidly shifting toward software-defined vehicles, transforming how teams design, secure and deliver next-generation mobility. Software now drives differentiation, performance and security, pushing automakers to rethink engineering workflows, supplier relationships and the pace of innovation.

This report examines the forces accelerating that shift, from new cybersecurity regulations to the growing role of AI and DevSecOps, along with the impact of expanding partnerships and acquisitions. Supported by exclusive insights from VDC Research’s Voice of the Engineer survey, it delivers firsthand perspective on the challenges and priorities shaping today’s automotive software strategies.
