Philips Announces Expansion of PerformanceBridge Analytics Solution Into Cardiology

  • James Asselmeyer

This week at the Healthcare Information & Management Systems Society conference in Orlando, Florida, Philips unveiled the latest development of its Enterprise Performance Analytics program. The company announced that its PerformanceBridge offering, which provides operational insights and deep analytics capabilities to radiology practices, will now be available to cardiology practices. While mobile analytics have historically focused on the device itself, Philips’ offering is part of a new wave of mobile analytics programs which offer much more. In addition to monitoring device telemetry and battery health, Philips’ PerformanceBridge helps organizations gain insight into workflow efficiency, the employee experience, and training optimization through the use of its analytics and workflow tools. Organizations can leverage these insights to minimize costs while improving employee satisfaction and the most important metric in healthcare: patient outcomes.

The PerformanceBridge application suite connects mobile workers and data from reception and patient intake through to physicians and administrators. The suite includes numerous web-based, vendor agnostic applications to help manage a radiology or cardiology practice. With PerformanceBridge Productivity, users can monitor operational, clinical, and financial metrics in real-time; data can be viewed and analyzed at various depths, ranging from multi-year organization level aggregates down to exam-level details. The analysis of operational data to improve training and workflows has become a key capability of analytics solutions – healthcare IT decision makers in VDC’s recent Buyer Behavior Guide survey indicated that analytics will have a positive impact in their onboarding processes (Exhibit 1). 50% of respondents stated that using an analytics solution will improve employee retention rates – one of the top goals in healthcare settings today.

The Scanner Utilization app tracks utilization in real-time to help manage resources and address key experience factors, including wait and delay analysis. These insights can drive efficient use of resources and aid decision making to improve the patient experience. Follow-up tracker auto-generates a list of patients with follow-up recommendations and can be filtered to focus on those for which follow-up recommendations are unfulfilled. These capabilities increase compliance with recommendations, generate new engagement opportunities and lead to appropriate diagnosis and treatment. All of this combines to improve the patient experience. Numerous other applications are available, including Report Search and Quality, which support on difficult or unusual diagnoses and aid in decision-making around operational and financial performance improvements, respectively.

With Philips’ announcement that the PerformanceBridge offering will now be available to cardiology practices, one can only wonder to which specialty the mobile analytics program will expand to next. This program highlights numerous technology trends which are exceedingly important today, including the improvement of workflows and communication to free up staff to spend more time on patient care. Mobile analytics is featured in VDC Research’s report, Enterprise Mobility Analytics: From Battery Monitoring to Application Performance and Network Persistence.
